In this day and age, there are lots of potential problems just waiting to go wrong with your computer systems. Viruses, hackers, hardware failure, operating system issues, and much more. If you don’t have the correct safeguards in place, when disaster strikes, it’ll strike hard and will be expensive to repair. Of course, that’s the best case scenario – you could lose everything. Could you really let your company run that risk? Of course, you may just be looking to develop what you already have and cope with company expansion. Looking to increase server capacity? Expand your physical network? Create a secure VPN link between multiple sites? I’m your man.

Why do I need I.T. support?

Because prevention is better than cure. Having an expert watch over your systems, be you a sole proprietor working from home, or a larger company, is essential. Too many people make the mistake of having someone install their system, but then not having them maintained and safeguarded from threats. I have seen it too many times from experience – lack of proper investment in I.T. systems protection and safeguarding can and will lead to disaster. If disaster strikes and you hadn’t implemented an effective backup strategy, all data in your company could be lost. Could you really run that risk? Just like your accounts, if you aren’t an accountant, you wouldn’t try and do your books entirely on your own. Computers should be no different.

Isn’t support expensive?

Not really. Indeed, if you have an on-site engineer that works 40 hours per week, it’s going to cost you significantly. But if you’re a smaller company, I understand that you don’t need this can be overkill. Instead, why not outsource the work and have me maintain your systems for just a few hours a week? This way it becomes much cheaper.

What do you know about supporting networks and enterprise systems?

Quite a lot, actually. I have worked for over four years maintaining and administering large Windows Server based domains, with 8 servers and hundreds of clients. I have worked intensively with Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server and more. I have designed and implemented Active Directory domain structures, complex tape and disk based backup strategies using Symantec Backup Exec, and configured Terminal Services for remote access. I have planned and redeveloped complex TCP/IP based network backbones from structuring physical switching to implementing effective sub-netting and wireless security with RADIUS and domain authentication. I have intensively studied the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer course and I have experience with virtualisation at a bare metal, hypervisor level with VMWare ESX Server.

How do I know if everything is running smoothly? Can I have a health check?

Absolutely – for free! At your convenience, I would happily pop out to your premises and give you a thorough evaluation of your system security and redundancy. I can evaluate your threat prevention techniques, backup strategy, network security, network performance and a thorough review of each and every network terminal/computer. All this for free.

What if disaster strikes when I least expect it?

Don’t worry, I know how important your systems can be to you and even at the most awkward times you need someone to rush to your rescue. For this reason, take my direct contact number and day or night, seven days a week, give me a call if you’re a damsel in distress and I’ll come running.

What type of support packages can you offer?

It depends. It can suit your needs, the size of your network and your budget. Generally I can offer periodic health checks, contractual Service Level Agreements, remote support, weekly/monthly/periodic site visits and more.

How can you improve and develop my systems?

Maybe your network has got big enough now to warrant a centralised file storage area, such as a server? You could be finding that documents are scattered on everyone’s computers and finding/collaborating on work is getting very difficult. In this case, a centralised storage location improves security, scalability, accessibility and redundancy. Maybe you have a system that has started reaching it’s capacity and running slower than it once did? Perhaps you’ve opened up a new office location and need to link the two together? Whatever your needs, if you need to develop your existing systems, I can do it.

How much would this cost?

As with web design and development, giving an accurate figure can be very difficult. Generally, my support charges are usually around £20 per hour, although you can expect a significant discount for large projects.
